A couple of weeks ago, amidst some exam stress, I did a bit of online shopping and managed to bag myself an amazing deal with Tarte Cosmetics! They were offering a make-up bag filled with 6 full sized products for only £56 (however, usually the entire purchase would be worth £180+). Apparently they do this once or twice every year. I’ve always wanted to try out their make-up so I couldn’t really resist!
It did take a couple of weeks to get to me, which was made clear on the website when I purchased it since there was such a high demand for this deal, but I received it a few days ago and I was so excited I had to start writing about them ASAP.
I’ve only tried out these products a couple of times, but I will be coming back to review them at a later date when I’ve played around with them first. For now, I’ll just be doing a first impressions / look at what I bought.
There were 6 sections (foundation, concealer, face, eyes, lips, etc.), and you would choose one product from each section to make up your 6 full sized products plus a make-up bag as your seventh item. I went for:
Shape Tape Hydrating Foundation (Porcelain)
Maracuja Creaseless Concealer (Fair)
Sculptorcontouring Face Slenderiser (Park Ave Princess)
Tarteist Quick Dry Matte Lip Paint (Homeslice)
Sex Kitten Eyeliner
Lights, Camera Lashes 4-in-1 Mascara (Black)
I also went for the bright pink make-up bag with tassels on the zipper, and picked up 2 of the £1 testers at the check out – I got the Deep Dive Cleansing Gel, and Mermaid Skin Hyaluronic H20 Serum. Though, I haven’t tried either of those yet.
I’m very pale so for the face products I opted to buy their palest shades, although I was still worried about the foundation and concealer being too dark for me. However, the foundation is the PERFECT shade, and the concealer is a really good shade for covering blemishes. I’m still uncertain if I would use it under my eyes or if it’s not quite light enough for that, but I’ll have to trial that out first.
I hadn’t heard great things about the Shape Tape foundation online, and was a bit worried about it clinging to dry patches and going a bit patchy. So, instead of going for the matte foundation, I bought the hydrating version and so far, I’m really liking it. It’s not clinging at all, and like I said it is the perfect colour for me and gives a lovely finish.
The concealer is good at covering up my blemishes, and is really blendable and doesn’t give that odd discolouration/patchiness that some concealers do on top of foundation. It’s my favourite concealer that I’ve tried so far!
I’m a huge cream contour fan and have almost ran out of my current stick, so the Slenderiser was obviously going into my make-up bag! I’m on the fence about this product so far. At first, it didn’t seem as dark as I would want it or am used to (very unusual for me!) but I think it’s just because my current contour stick is cold toned, whereas this is a warm toned brown. I am liking the warm toned colour for Spring so far and I think I’ll make good use of it throughout Summer too, but I’m still not sure where I sit with the product overall.
The Tarteist Lip Paint might be my favourite product in this whole haul. It drys almost instantly once you apply it, and it really is 100% dry to the touch with no (absolutely NO) residue coming off your lips at all. Even though it drys instantly, for me it didn’t go patchy when I popped on another layer to top it up. And when I first applied it, it only needed one layer, too! I am so in love with this product already and would definitely recommend. I bought mine in the colour Homeslice which is a lovely peachy nude.
The last two products were the Sex Kitten Eyeliner, and the Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara, both in black. The eyeliner I have only used once, and used it for my first ever smoky eyeliner look as it has a blending sponge on the other end of the pencil. I really love how creamy it feels, and it looked gorgeous as a very subtle eyeliner look. I’ll have to play around with it a bit more!
The mascara, I found needs a few coats for the effect I’d like. One coat gives a lovely, almost natural mascara look if that is something you want, but I prefer much fuller lashes – which is achievable, but like I said, it does need 2 or 3 coats to get there. However if you’re looking for something that can do both, this is definitely the mascara for you.
I’m still so excited that I managed to bag all these products for such a low price, and I’ll be keeping my eye on Tarte for the next time they are offering this kind of deal!
Have you tried any of these products before? What’s your favourite Tarte product?
